Rachel Claar
Rachel is the head of our Art department at Firebird and is currently teaching multi levels in ceramics as well as drawing and mixed media.
Miss Claar is a 2010 graduate from the Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University with a bachelors degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in ceramics. She also holds a minor degree in the Spanish language.
During her college career, she won coveted awards, like the Binda in 2008, for excellence in Art. Many of her pieces have been exhibited in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo galleries with one piece, "Down the Rabbit Hole", earning a prestigious spot on a two year national tour where only two drawings were accepted from each state. Her drawing was one of two pieces that were selected to represent the state of Michigan.
After graduation, she held her first solo exhibition at the Tibbits Opera House Gallery which opened February 9, 2011. This was a 30 day exhibit entitled, "The Journey of an Artist". There she displayed numerous works from her college career, with the intent of showing her progression as an artist through the years.
As a life long resident of Coldwater, she is thrilled to have come back home to share art, the gifts God has blessed her with.
Her works can be viewed and purchased at her online business, Claar Treasures at www.claartreasures.com
In addition to teaching art, Miss Claar has taught flute and piano at Firebird since 2011. Her training includes normal classes through Coldwater Community Schools, and private lessons in the traditional method. She is a former member of the Community Band of Branch County and has played in the pit orchestra during summer stock at Tibbits, both since 2005.
